A NOTE ON BEARS! Because we are using a remote site for Merc Wars, it is very likely that we will be visited by bears if
we do not take proper precautions. All food should be stored inside vehicles with windows
rolled up. Even the smell of toothpaste has been known to attract bears and should not be kept in tents.
There will be a communal cooking/eating/social area separate from the two individual camps and all
food preparation should be completed in this area ONLY. If you meet a bear DO NOT RUN!
Raise your arms to make yourself appear bigger and back away slowly and talk calmly to the bear. If the bear attacks FIGHT BACK.
We are only likely to see black bears, which are generally non-agressive and only attack when they feel
threatened or are protecting cubs.
A NOTE ON WATER! Our site now has water, but it would still be a good idea to bring plenty of your own. Remember, it will be August--the middle of the summer--and it will be brain-boiling hot (especially if you're wearing armor). Just be smart.
Last year we had both sites, which was fun, but this year we're back to only one, so we might see a few people wander through our camp, be courteous, but send them packing. Here's a look at the site (click the pics for a larger image):
One view of the campsite from the East. There is a trail that runs
alongside the campground.
 |
Another, slightly closer view. If you look in the background you can see the fence that seperates Meadows 1 from Meadows 2.
 |
The meadow for which the camp is named. This is where we held the Archery and Spear Tourneys, and where some of the battles were staged.
 |
Big rock piles. These were near the Black Falcons' camp at MercWars IX.
 |
The Giant's Cairn. This is where MercWars IX's treasure was hidden. Yes. Up on top.
 |
The Ford! We all got a nice refreshing fight or ten in here, and I'm looking forward to getting my boots all soggy again this year.
